Regular Board Meeting

May 11, 2026

The meeting was called to order by Daniel Stehlik at 8:08 pm ct.  The following board members were present:

             Connie Moore, Scott Schaneman, Issac Brunkow, Daniel Stehlik, Al Weeder, Mike Littlefield, John Wallace, Bill Breuttner, Communication Secretary Melissa Nicholson.

The following education committee members were present:

            Randy Saner, Ivan Rush, Kelly Bruns

Secretary Report: No corrections to the April minutes. Motion to accept secretaries report by Scott and seconded Bill.   Motion carried.

Treasurers Report: Balances: Regular Checking: $5412.01, PayPal: $857.25 -$500 (to checking account) = Balance of $357.25, Petty Cash: $56.84 and Youth Fund of $1395.00.   Motion by Issac to approve the treasurer’s report and seconded by Bill. Motion carried.    Bills: There were no new bills other than a bill from Aksarben for 2025 which could not be submitted because FFA did  not return calls to verify the bill.  Michael reported that he had paid the Aksarben Challenge and the ASI insurance.

Membership Report: WE have a total of 60 members.  42 sheep, 7 goat, 5 youth, and 6 both.  Missy will send a personal email to those not yet renewed.

Old Business:

  1. Report from John on Lambing and Kidding clinic: John reported that he had about 12 that attended.  There were demonstrations by Matt Grimes’ bum lamb system and a bulk handler system.  Lunch was provided at a local fire hall. He had people from Pennsylvania, Kansas and Nebraska.  He gave a summary of the day and the NSGP made about $600 through PayPal and John donated the $150 spend on catering back to the organization.  Felt it was successful even though there were not many attending.
  • Tasting and Activity Station at State Fair: The plans right now is to serve both lamb and goat fajitas and splitting time.  We will try to put together a power point so we can talk about lamb and goat. 

 The Activity station we are planning will include display boards showing byproducts, ring toss games and facts about lamb/sheep and goat.  We will also have activity sheets, games, coloring sheets, as well as packets of wool and wool items, games with prizes and handouts using branded items for the NSGP.  Scott, Al, Daniel, Issac, Randy and Bill will be possibly attend and help.

  • Progress on Aksarben Challenge: We got a final count of those wishing to sponsor the lamb and goat which are Ivan, Al, Dan, Bill, Melissa, Connie, Randy, John.  The amount of the sponsorship will be $87.50 paid to NSGP.
  • Issac discussed the MARC sale on September 12 in Sutton.  He felt the catalog would be out in July.  We will apply for the grant from the ALB to help with the meal we will serve.
  • Progress on FFA and 4H Awards: Scott, Daniel, Issac, and Scott have voted

It was decided that we will give 2-$50 for the Commercial Ewe and Commercial Ram for 2026.  Motion by Missy and seconded by Connie to award 2-$50 awards.  Motion carried.  Then we had a motion by Connie and seconded by Scott to also give 2-$50 awards to 4-H.  Motion carried.  We are checking on the award per bill for 2025.

  • Starter Flock report – Scott reported that he is working on the application. He may contact other on the board to finish the application when it comes to budgeting and operation of the NSGP.   Scott will also need a W9 form.
  • Fall Conference: There was a motion by Issac and seconded by Bill to have Fall Conference on November 6, 2026.  Connie made a motion and seconded by Issac to hold the Fall Conference in North Platte.  Kelly and Randy will help with the conference and Connie, Melissa and Daniel have also offered by help.  Offered ideas like potential site visits and program development. Ideas for tours were possibly PAL’s brewery, the fish hatchery and other agricultural sites beside sheep and goat operations.
  • Other Old Business: there was no other old business.

New Business:

  1. Membership numbers are due to be reported by May 31, 2026.

The membership total of 60 members. The goat members will (by consensus) be included with the membership total.  

We need to send an application to Todd and Peg Hintz

  • Shearing Contest at State Fair:  We are checking into whether this event is going to be at the State Fair in 2026.  Al/Michael will contact Kevin Corn to see what the status of the shearing contact. 
  • Other New Business: No was no other new business.  Remember the Electric Fence workshop on June 6th.
