Regular Board Meeting
April 20, 2026

The meeting was called to order by Daniel Stehlik at 8:05 pm cdt. The following board members were present:
Connie Moore, John Wallace, Melissa Nicholson, Bill Buettner, Scott Schaneman, Al Weeder, Issac Brunkow, Michael Littlefield, Dallas Henry, Daniel Stehlik.
The following education committee members were present: Randy Saner and Ivan Rush.
Secretary Report: There were no corrections to the March 16, 2026 board meeting. Motion to accept the minutes by Melissa and seconded by Al. Motion carried.
Treasurers Report: Balances: Regular Checking: $5923.46, PayPal: $579.32, Petty Cash: $56.84, Youth Fund $1395.00. Motion by Connie to approve the treasurer’s report and seconded by Scott. Motion carried.
Bills: Aksarben Challenge of $700 and postage to mail Life on the Farm boxes of $36.47. Motion to pay these bills by Bill and seconded Connie. Motion carried.
Membership report: Total 53 total members = 38 (S), 4 (G), 7 (B) with youth of 2 (S), 2 (G) and 1 (B).
Media Report: John gave a report showing that there were 1.2K views. He feels that it should be automated. He also showed other charts that gave the board more information.
Old Business:
- Update on clinics planned for 2026:
The Lambing and Kidding Clinic set for May 9th will start at 9:00 and will start in Holstein, Nebraska. It was suggested that there be signages directing those attending the clinic so they aware of the location.
John is also planning an electric fence workshop on June 6, 2026.
- Tasting and Activity Station at State Fair: The tasting is set for Sept 5 & 6 from 11:00 to 1:00. Ideas are still being planned for the food to serve and what we are planning for the Activity. Thoughts were discussed and ideas were: chili, fajitas, tacos, and for the activities for the Activity Station is possibly bean bag toss, Jeopardy game, packets of wool with fact sheets, crossword puzzles, or fact sheets. The Activity Station scheduled for us September 5th from 9-2. Planning is still being organized.
- Progress on Aksarben Challenge: Those that have volunteered to help sponsor the Lamb and Goat Challenge are: John W, Randy S, Daniel, Ivan, Bill, Connie, Missy, and Al. An email will sent to those board members with the amount of their sponsorship with the April 20, 2026 minutes. If there is incorrect please let Connie know. If this is correct, each sponsor on the list is to send money (made out to NSGP) in the amount of $87.50. If this is not correct, then we will have to recalculate. Al also reported that he met with Corbin when he picked up his goat. Al had pictures to share.
- Progress on FFA and 4-H Awards: Connie will send out those options for award sponsorship in FFA. There is a list of the sponsorship available and we need to vote which one(s) we want to sponsor and PLEASE let Connie know asap.
- Starter Flock report- Scott has volunteered to write a grant application with Farm Credit in the amount of $15,000 so that we may start a Starter Flock program for the youth. Missy made a motion to have Scott write the grant and Dallas seconded. Motion carried.
- Other Old Business: Issac addressed the board with the idea of serving a meal for the MARC sheep sale on September 12, 2026. Bill made a motion that we serve the meal and Dallas seconded. Motion carried. Dallas, Dan, and Bill have volunteered to serve the meal. The meal with on a donation bases.
New Business:
- Membership dues are due by May 5, 2026.
- Liability Insurance and Risk Management Insurance: The letter that was received was read and it was suggested that we have a representative from the company speak at our Fall Convention. The Liability Insurance for ASI was presented. Connie made a motion to acquire the ASI Liability Insurance for this year and Bill seconded the motion. Motion carried.
- Resignation of Zahrah Khan, Operations Manager for ASI—this item was mentioned during the meeting.
- Scrapie grant – Received—We were honored to receive the Scrapie Grant again this year. The grant is for $1000. Ideas are to put information in veterinarian office, extension offices, and feed/farm, and distributed at County Fair throughout the states.
- Other new business: Fall Conference is going to be on May agenda so that we can get an early start. Think about location and topic for speakers.
John Wallace brought up the fact that we should have banners at all sale barns in Nebraska that sell goats and sheep. John will look into the cost and number for the next meeting.
It was also mentioned that when we are setting up tours that maybe we can tour member locations and if not, encourage the sites to become nembers.
