Regular Board Meeting

June 15, 2026

8:00 cdt/7:00mdt

The meeting was called to order by Daniel Stehlik at 8:01 pm ct.  The following board members were present:

             Connie Moore, Issac Brunkow, Daniel Stehlik, Al Weeder, Mike Littlefield, John Wallace, Bill Breuttner, Communication Secretary Melissa Nicholson,

The following education committee members were present:

            Randy Saner, Kelly Bruns

Secretary Report: No corrections to the May 11, 2026 minutes.. Motion to accept secretaries report by Melissa and seconded Issac.   Motion carried.

Treasurers Report: Balances: Regular Checking: $5432.01 motion by Connie to accept the regular checking treasurer’s report and seconded by John.  Motion carried.  PayPal:$469.08, Petty Cash: $56.84 and Youth Fund of $1395.00.   Motion by Connie to approve the treasurer’s report for PayPal, Petty Cash and Youth Fund and seconded by Bill. Motion carried       Bills:  $100 for 4-H and $100 for FFA. 

Membership Report: We have a total of members.  45 sheep, 10 goat, 1 youth, and 7 both for a total of 61 members total.

Media Report: Since October we have increased our website hits.

Old Business:

  1. Report from John on Electric Fence clinic:  Had half a dozen people and Scott Schmelkun demonstrated electric netting systems and John conducted hands-on exercise including setting up polywire and faults finding with equipment. Bill found the clinic interesting and appreciated the gate hooks and the remote fence control demonstration. There was great discussion and tours.
  • Tasting and Activity Station at State Fair:  Melissa and Connie informed the board what was planned for the tasting (the menu) and Activity Station.  Those ideas were fajitas for the tasting with both lamb and goat meat.  Several activities are planned for the activity station such as knowledge games, posters and display boards. 

  Scott, Al, Daniel, Issac, Randy and Bill will be possibly at the fair and help.

  • Progress on Aksarben Challenge: The amount of the sponsorship will be $87.50 paid to NSGP.  Those that have agreed to sponsor the Aksarben Challenge are reminded to remit their sponsorship money to Michael as soon as possible,
  • Starter Flock report – Scott is still working on the grant which is due June 30th.
  • Fall Conference: The Fall Conference will be changed to November 6 & 7, 2026 in North Platte.  Several ideas were discussed and Randy and Kelly are going to check on those suggestions and report back to the board.  Names that were suggested were Whit Stewart, CJ Monhauser, Erin Labry, tours, North Platte Sale barn, update on NWS and Scrapies, and Steve Vaughns farm.
  • Other Old Business: No other old business.

New Business:

  1. Membership numbers are due to be reported by May 31, 2026..  Following numbers were reported to ASI.  58 members
  • Shearing Contest at State Fair: At this time there will not be a Shearing Contest at the Nebraska State Fair.
  • NWS – We will possibly bring a speaker to talk about Scrapies and NWS at the Fall Conference..
  • Other New Business: There was a motion by Al and seconded by Bill to have brochures printed for Scrapies and NWS and send them out to extension offices, sale barns, and other vendors.
